Rugby Overview of England Flanker Tom Johnson

Tom Johnson is a professional rugby union player of Aviva Premiership side Exeter Chiefs. Tom attended Dean Close School, Cheltenham. He plays as Flanker or Number Eight. Johnson’s father was Royal Air Force officer. He too considered to joining air force, but he decided to become a professional rugby player. Johnson began his rugby with the amateur club Chinnor RFC. Johnson got attached with Reading RFC in 2004. There Johnson appeared in their all 28 National Three south and Cup matches. Johnson moved to Coventry in the next season. During his stay at Coventry he did an 80 meter try. This indicated his ability to throw from long range.


He was selected in the England team to compete with Barbarians in 2011. Johnson started many times for the England Saxons squad. Johnson was called up for trip of England to South Africa in 2012. Johnson initiated all three games from England. Johnson was the first England international from Exeter Rugby Club after Martin Underwood since 1964 when he earned his first cap on England’s tour to South Africa in June 2012. Originally Johnson got selection in England’s squad for the 2013 Six Nations; however he was not called up when he got a knee injury ruling him out of the tournament. However he was called up to England’s tour of Argentina and Uruguay in 2013.
