Wale’s Centre Crisis Disappears as Their Injured Players Recover

Wale’s Jonathan Davies, Scott Williams and Cory Allen are about to be fit to reduce the centre crisis. The results of a scan on Davies were being waited by Wales after he was injured during the Clermont Auvergne's European Champions Cup. French media’s initial reports said that Davies’ shoulder was dislocated due to which he was likely to be ruled out of the autumn campaign but it was only shoulder muscle problem according to scan results. Hamstring and leg issues were reported by Scarlets’ Williams and Cardiff Blues’ Allen but the trio will participate in the training session next week before opening autumn test against Australia begins on November 8.

“It is very good news over all, “said forwards coach Robin McBryde. “We are still watching how the rehabilitation process of players is progressing but it is looking positive and hopefully if not all most of them will be participating next week. Things are finding their way. It will be early to make a final call but it is much better than what we first thought.” McBryde also thinks that Bath prop paul James’ rejoining of the Ospreys at the end of the season will boost Wales.  “It is good news for any Welsh supporter from national point of view, “said McBryde. “He strengthens and boosts any squad in which he is included.”

Five In Form Boks are Rewarded by Selectors

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has rewarded several players for their good form in this year’s Absa Currie Cup by handing out five new caps after he named a 36 man squad for the trip of the Northern Hemisphere next month. DHL Western Province’s Nizaam Carr and the Xerox Golden Lions’ Jaco Kriel were among the both deserving who both were first priority choices for the squad because they gave some wonderful performances this season. Lions hooker Robbie Coetzee and Julian Redelinghuys and Seabelo Senatla were also called up for the tour. Marnitz Boshoff who had a poor Currie Cup final was not selected while Goosen came in because of some recent good performances. Both Pat Lambie and Goosen will back up to Willie le Roux in the position.

“It is interesting five uncapped players have been selected for their wonderful form throughout the season having this kind of continuity in selection, “said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer. “Our training camp in Stellenbosh last week had many of the selected players where we did a lot of hard work. We’ll have to work hard when we gather in Johannesburg on Wednesday before departing for a challenging tour. First we will play with the Six Nations Champions in Dublin then take on England. Italy is always a hard team at home ground and Welsh is probably most consistent team for the last number of seasons.” Meyer congratulated all the selected players and said he is waiting to work first time with the five newcomers.

Brumbies Coach Larkham Rejects to Become Assistant Australian Coach

Ex Australia fly-half Stephen Larkham has ruled out the possibility to work as the assistant of new Australian coach on the forthcoming tour of Europe. Larkham wants to concentrate on his job with Brumbies. New South Wales Waratahs coach Michael Cheika is expected to be appointed by The Australian Rugby Union in place of Ewen McKenzie who left suddenly on Saturday. The squad leaves for Europe on Friday but Larkham who earned 102 caps for his country will not depart along with them despite he is mooted to work under Cheika.

"While I was considered, I felt it would not be fair for the Brumies to leave my first solo preparation for a Super Rugby season for five weeks," Larkham said. "I want the success of Australian rugby but I believe I can best serve the Wallabies by concentrating on the Brumbies at this time who will be the backbone of the squad in the World Cup. Our own campaign is about to start here in Canberra and if I am not on the duty from the first day it would be difficult for me to show the results expected from me."

Williams v Halfpenny Expected Clash Has Excited Scarlets Boss Pivac

The European Rugby Championship on Sunday could see the pair facing each other. Leigh Halfpenny debuted from Toulon on Sunday while Liam Williams has impressed for Scarlets this season.  Scarlets coach Wayne Pivac says Wales will have a big chance to select a great full-back for the autumn Tests between the two. Pivac said: "I've seen Liam playing and if somebody plays better than him then Warren Gatland should be very happy because he will have a great full-back. It will be exciting to see one of the joys at the weekend.” Pivac knows that performances in Europe could affect international selection when Scarlets will meet Toulon at the Stade Mayol on Sunday. Williams started Wales' last three international matches when Halfpenny had shoulder operation.

Halfpenny went from Cardiff Blues to Toulon in the summer. While Halfpenny has been sidelined Williams has sidelined Halfpenny with his performance for the Scarlets having attacking style and boldness. However because of the two yellow cards in the draw game with Ulster on the opening weekend of the Pro12, he was sent off. He also granted a penalty try in the final minute of Wales' 31-30 defeat in South Africa. Pivac added: “There will be great game for our internationals on Sunday. Toulon side has some big names and I'm sure Warren Gatland will make some selections after seeing people’s perform in these matches.”

Absence of Duane Vermeulen Will Weaken South Africa: Thinus Delport

Former Springbok Thinus Delport says South Africa’s Rugby Championship Test against New Zealand would have a massive blow in the absence of Duane Vermeulen. He has been selected in South Africa’s squad for match against New Zealand but his rib cartilage injury is being treated. Schalk Burger is standby player but according to Delport Vermeulen cannot be easily substituted. Delport said: “He showed outstanding performance throughout this Championship campaign. South Africa has massive concern about Duane Vermeulen and the Springbok management will do everything to get him fit before this game.”

Delport added: “Burger is a big player and he works at great speed but he has not the same physicality as Vermeulen. Willem Alberts and Francois Louw are not present in South Africa squad and absence of Vermeulen will be a great loss. Delport claims that Springbok performance was boosted by outstanding contributions of Vermeulen in last week’s win against Australia. He added: “Heyneke Meyer selected Bismarck Du Plessis instead of Adriaan Strauss because he has great physique and if Vermeulen does not play we will need Du Plessis’ physicality.”
