Five In Form Boks are Rewarded by Selectors

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has rewarded several players for their good form in this year’s Absa Currie Cup by handing out five new caps after he named a 36 man squad for the trip of the Northern Hemisphere next month. DHL Western Province’s Nizaam Carr and the Xerox Golden Lions’ Jaco Kriel were among the both deserving who both were first priority choices for the squad because they gave some wonderful performances this season. Lions hooker Robbie Coetzee and Julian Redelinghuys and Seabelo Senatla were also called up for the tour. Marnitz Boshoff who had a poor Currie Cup final was not selected while Goosen came in because of some recent good performances. Both Pat Lambie and Goosen will back up to Willie le Roux in the position.

“It is interesting five uncapped players have been selected for their wonderful form throughout the season having this kind of continuity in selection, “said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer. “Our training camp in Stellenbosh last week had many of the selected players where we did a lot of hard work. We’ll have to work hard when we gather in Johannesburg on Wednesday before departing for a challenging tour. First we will play with the Six Nations Champions in Dublin then take on England. Italy is always a hard team at home ground and Welsh is probably most consistent team for the last number of seasons.” Meyer congratulated all the selected players and said he is waiting to work first time with the five newcomers.
